Why Choose Business Studies?
Every day you take part in the world of Business from downloading music to buying a bar of chocolate. Choosing Business Studies gives you an understanding of the real world and will help you get the most out of your role as customer, college student, employee and maybe later on as an employer.
What kinds of things will I study?
Over 2 years you will study three units of work
Unit 1 – Introduction to Small Business this involves looking at how to set up a small business including things like how to finance a small business, recruiting staff and marketing the business, this will be assessed by an external examination of 45 minutes.
Unit 2 – Investigating Small Business this unit involves carrying out some research into a real business and producing a piece of work based on your research. This task is carried out mostly in lesson time and marked by your teacher.
Unit 3 – Building a Business which extends what you have learnt from units one and two. This unit covers 5 topic areas including marketing, meeting customer needs, effective financial management, effective people management and the wider world which affects business. You will be assessed by sitting an external examination which lasts for 1 hour 30 mins.
How will I be taught?
Business Studies lessons offer a wide variety of teaching methods, you will have extensive use of ICT and there are a range of industrial visits so that you can see what you are learning about.
What can I do with a GCSE in Business Studies?
You could carry on in education and take A Levels in Business Studies and in Economics. You could study a BTEC or other vocational course. You will also have the skills that all employers are looking for including:
