In St Sampson’s High School, History is a subject that all Key Stage 3 pupils (Years 7-9) study and an option for Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11).
In Year 7 we look at basic historical skills before looking at the Romans. After the Autumn term we study Britain after 1066.
In Year 8 we move onto Britain between 1500 and 1750. This looks closely at the Tudors and the Stuarts. In the Summer term we focus on the Native Americans.
In Year 9 we study how Britain changes between 1750 and 1900. After this we look at WWI and WWII and many other important events of the 20th Century.
For GCSE we spend the first 2 terms studying Medicine through Time before starting on our Controlled Assessment. The Controlled Assessment counts as 25% of the final GCSE and is focused on Castle Cornet. Once we have completed this we finish the GCSE course by studying Germany between the World Wars. At the end of Year 11 there are 2 exams and these grades, added to the Controlled Assessment, complete the History GCSE.
