Schools are very spacious in China, huge great marble halls. High schools are a similar size to St Sampson’s around 700 students. Because China has had a one child policy for some time now, the population is falling and schools are half empty. Students follow the text book rigidly, we saw an English lesson in one school, then two days later exactly the same lesson in another school. Chinese students work hard, they have very little free time. They complain to us that they have too much homework.
